Help build our board


Kentucky Equal Justice Center (KEJC) seeks one Client and two Community Board Members to help oversee our operation as a civil legal advocacy center for low-income Kentuckians.

You are invited to help build the Board! See our nomination form here. Details below.

Community Board Members must be individuals with a demonstrated interest in advocacy for low-income Kentuckians. Client Board Members must have received services (or be eligible for them) from us or one of the four regional civil legal services program in Kentucky:

  • AppalRed (Eastern and South Central Kentucky)
  • Kentucky Legal Aid (Western Kentucky)
  • Legal Aid of the Bluegrass (Lexington, Northern and Northeast Kentucky
  • Louisville Legal Aid Society (Louisville and surrounding counties)

Board members must share a commitment to our mission: to promote equal justice for all residents of the Commonwealth by serving as an advocate for low income and other vulnerable members of society.

The board normally meets 4 times a year.

Nomination deadline and timeline

Please email or fax nominations by July 17 or mail them postmarked by July 14. The board’s Nominating Committee will review all nominations received by the deadline and make recommendations. We hope to vote on the new members at the next regular board meeting of the year on July 25.

Don’t wait if you know a good candidate, or are one! Anyone may make a nomination. Self-nominations are welcome. A nomination form must be received for all nominees. Diversity and nondiscrimination policy

Kentucky Equal Justice Center affirmatively seeks diversity in its Board membership. Board members shall be selected entirely on a nondiscriminatory basis with respect to age, ancestry, disability, ethnicity, familial status, gender, gender identity, limited English proficiency, national origin, political affiliation, race, religion, sexual orientation, veteran status and all other categories provided nondiscriminatory treatment by law, statute, or ordinance.

Client Board Member Income Guidelines

Kentucky Equal Justice Center serves low income Kentuckians up to 200 percent of the federal poverty level. See table below. Client Board members who have not already received legal services must meet these guidelines. Client Board Members who already received services from KEJC or another Kentucky Legal Services program qualify regardless of current income.
