KEJC lost a devoted friend, mentor, and advocate Thursday with the passing of board member Chris Frost. As long running board chair, Chris took genuine pride in the work and achievements of KEJC staff and volunteers. His support was invaluable.
I first met Chris Frost when he was a member of the Attorney General's legal team that challenged the for-profit takeover of the nonprofit assets of Kentucky Blue Cross. That case and Chris's work led to the creation of the Foundation for a Healthy Kentucky.
I was thrilled when this brilliant and accomplished legal scholar agreed to join KEJC's board. As a board member, Chris helped guide the "merger" of Kentucky Equal Justice Center and Maxwell Street Legal Clinic. He served as chair during the successful rollout of our last strategic plan. He shared his wisdom about sustainability as we crafted a new one following an exciting period of growth.
Prof. Frost was KEJC's first board chair who was not a director of a legal aid program. The fact that directors of those venerable programs welcomed him as chair speaks volumes about the trust and respect he inspired in the legal community.
